It was long ago, but I remember it well. Every year we (my mom and me) were not prepared for Halloween. But there was free candy out there and we were poor and free candy sounded really good.
So every year, my mother would put me in about 4 or 5 layers of sweaters and coats. I would ask, being a confused child, "What am I ?" Answer from Mom, "You're a bum, a hobo.' '
Next year, same drill, coats, question, and answer, "You're a fat guy", I was 15 (slow to mature) before I realized it wasn't a costume and should have really announced at each door, "Oh me, I'm just the village idiot".
It's funny to me now.

Your blog has released this old memory, I can even remember where I was standing in that living room so very long ago, with all my coats on, bewildered.

THANK YOU.

I spoke with my Aunt (my Mom's sister, so I haven't talked to her in about 25 yrs) this afternoon and asked her if she was looking forward to having the "little ones" come around this evening.

She said she doesn't celebrate the Devil's Day.

Ok, crazy lady, talk to you in 25 more years!
