On the Road Again

Monday, July 2nd, 2012

I must have been a gypsy in another life. Not the kind that gets married at 17 wearing a hot pink skintight wedding dress, fishnets, and stilettos, but the kind that was always on the move.

Anyone ever have anyone give them a crystal ball reading...and actually get it right?

I can’t seem to help it: I love to be on the move. I love to see new places. I just plain old like to go.

I like to come back, too, and sometimes I like to sit perfectly still and let flies land on me, but for the most part…I like to go.

Thus, I’m usually pretty happy (while simultaneously panicked: history indicates I have more to get done than I will actually do) a couple days before I’m about to leave on a big trip.

This time, I’m headed east to see my dad, south to see my mom, and west to visit my storage space and discover what treasures I tucked away and forgot about. Anyone wanna buy a bike? How about some cross country skis?

Anyway, my hope is that this will provide something – anything – for me to entertain you with, as the fodder trough has run a bit dry…except for this: I just got a gig writing a weekly restaurant review column AND I was told to “be me” with respect to the writing style. That’s right, kiddos, I am getting PAID TO EAT.  Moreover, presuming the editor will be down with this, I plan to post the first paragraph of my weekly efforts here with a link back to the real deal, so you too can enjoy my thoughts on Spam Musubi (hilarious and charming in a PeeWee Herman’s funhouse kind of way…just don’t put it anywhere near your mouth), Loco Moco (just say no), and Li hing mui (oddly good in a sweet tart meets MSG meets “what the hell is this?” kind of way.) Hmmm…. Thinking I might need to work on saying nice things, but until then: Filipino food kinda sucks. Sorry, but it does.

More soon…or at least some pictures of alpacas or farmland or me on an airplane in a zombie state or my dad’s cats: super awesomesauce in any case. Three cheers for fodder!
